Dominica - Schools to Attend Third Cricket Test Match Free

All school children under 16 wishing to attend the 3rd Digicel Test – W.I. VS India – will enter the Windsor Park Sports Stadium absolutely free of charge on July 6th, 7th and 8th, 2011.

In order to gain entrance to the Test on Days 1, 2 and 3, school principals simply have to write a letter to the Dominica Cricket Association (DCA) on the school letterhead indicating which day(s) they would like to attend as a group and identify the number of students (under 16) and the number of teachers accompanying them.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) uses a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 students and a smaller ratio if the students are challenged. Once the letter is received and bears the principal’s signature together with contact information, tickets will be made available to the school. The DCA will, in turn, contact the respective school principals to indicate when the tickets can be collected. cont./

Discover Dominica Authority Using Jazz ‘n Creole to Promote Destination

Jazz/Creole – “It’s a fusion,” says Dominica’s leading Jazz/Creole artiste Michele Henderson, who is also one of the Caribbean’s premier female vocal talents. Her description of the genre draws the Creole aspect of the music to the rhythm; while the language and chords, she says, are jazz.

“It makes for a refreshing blend; it is not something you hear all the time. To me, it’s brilliant, I love it,” Henderson said to The Daily Herald last Sunday, June12, following her performance at the second annual Jazz ‘n Creole event held at Fort Shirley, Cabrits National Park in Portsmouth, once the site of the most impressive military installation in the West Indies built in the 18th century to protect the north area of Dominica by the British and French respectively. cont./

Dominica - The Waitukubuli National Trail

Dominica, the Caribbean's Nature Island, is looking to share its beauty with hikers through the development of a 115-mile cross-island walking. The Waitukubuli National Trail - named after the Carib Indian name for Dominica - is a major initiative by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, in partnership with the Regional Council of Martinique and funded by the European Union.

The Waitukubuli National Trail is divided into 14 continuous sections. Hikers can expect to cover its entire length in two weeks, or just choose individual trail segments to enjoy. The trail passes through mountainous landscapes and rainforests, showcasing the rivers and waterfalls for which Dominica is famous and taking visitors into the heart of local communities.

Here, Ashton Lugay of the Waitukubuli National Trail Project explains how the trail is being developed and the impact it will have on Dominica's tourism industry.

Forgotten Caribbean: The Geothermal Wonders of Wotton Waven, Dominica

On most Caribbean islands, the focus of your travels remains on the exterior. You visit the port cities and the beaches to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, and laze. This is not so on Dominica. The truly unique beauty of Dominica lies not on its coasts, but in its dense, tropical interior.

There is no better spot to capitalize on Dominica's thick rainforests, cool rivers, and abundant geothermal activity than Wotton Waven. Lying in the Roseau Valley, a short 4 mile, 20 min drive or bus ride from the capital, Wotton Waven is a nature lover's leafy paradise.

The town was named in the island's British Colonial days after Wootton Wawen in England, although the 2 towns are hardly alike. While Wootton Wawan is a flat meadowland, Wotton Waven is situated on top of the Wotton Waven Caldera, one of Dominica's many active volcanoes. Grenada is the only other island in the Caribbean with more than 1 volcano. Dominica boasts 9. cont./
